Welcome to the website of the Cameroon Rural Electrification Agency. With the unwavering support of our national and international partners, we have been able to advance the mission of the Agency as assigned by the President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul Biya. This is clearly visible in some of our projects as shown below:
- Electrification of 33 localities in 4 regions of Cameroon, with financing from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB phase 1, carried out between 2010 and 2012
- Electrification project for 102 localities in 5 regions of Cameroon, financed by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB phase 2, carried out from 2019 to 2024
- Electrification project for 50 localities in 3 regions of Cameroon, financed by the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), carried out from 2019 to 2024
- Electricity for Rural Development in RUMPI area and electrification of 100 localities by network extension, or by photovoltaic solar system, as well as the construction of a small 2.9MW hydroelectric power station whose work was suspended for security reasons, with funding of the European Union, carried out from January 2008 to December 2019;
- Electrification of 26 localities along the Cameroon-Nigeria border with financing from the Development Assistance Fund of the Kingdom of Spain, carried out between 2009 and 2012;
- Rural Electrification Project by Extension of North and South Interconnected Networks in 05 Regions (PDSEN) and electrification of 122 localities with funding from the World Bank carried out from 2009 to 2017;
- Rural electrification project by solar photovoltaic system with the Chinese partner Huawei, and electrification of 166 localities, phase 1 with financing from the Exim Bank of China, carried out from 2016 to 2018;
- Rural electrification project using photovoltaic solar system with the Chinese partner Huawei, and electrification of 184 localities, phase 2 with financing from the Exim Bank of China, carried out from 2017 to 2019;
- Rural electrification project by solar photovoltaic system with the Chinese partner Huawei, and electrification of 87 localities, phase 3 with financing from Afrexim Bank, the implementation of which is in progress;
- Project to build a 1.4 MW hydroelectric power plant expandable to 2.8 MW in Mbakaou Carrière on the Djerem River, with its associated network serving 8 localities with funding from the European Union between 2017 and 2022;
- Several localities and public services have also been electrified using internal resources of the Agency since its existence.
Some of our main projects are still ongoing. I will only mention a few:
- Rural Electrification and Access to Electricity Project in Underserved Areas of Cameroon (PERACE) which will electrify 519 localities in underserved regions with financing from the World Bank and the European Investment Bank, by the horizon 2027;
- Rural electrification project for 11 localities using photovoltaic solar systems with the Austrian company Merl Solar Technologies;
We suffer from insufficient funding, but we continue to hope that the State will redouble its efforts so that we can electrify more localities.
Thank you so much.
